Uniform Motion Problems

Uniform Motion Problems are problems where an object moves at a uniform speed. These problems are solved used weighted averages.

Imagine you have to drive to a friend’s house that is 60 miles away. There is heavy traffic on the way there, so your entire trip takes 2 hours. On the way back traffic is light, and your trip only takes 1 hour. What was your average speed for the entire trip?

To:

60 = rate * (2)

30 = rate

From:

60 = rate * (1)

60 = rate

To find the average speed for the entire trip, we take a weighted average:
