Solving Multi-Step Inequalities (Jump to: Lecture | Video )

Inequalities with multiple steps can be solved the same way as standard equations.

4x + 3 > 6x – 2

Let's solve this equation for "x". We'll start by adding 2 to each side:

4x + 5 > 6x

Next, we subtract 4x from each side:

5 > 2x

Finally, we divide each side by 2:

(5/2) > x

As you can see, inequalities have many of same rules as standard equations.
