Pure Imaginary Numbers

Pure Imaginary Numbers are the square roots of negative real numbers, such as:

A complex number is any number written in the form:

a + bi

Where ‘a’ and ‘b’ are real numbers, and ‘i’ is the imaginary unit.

Complex numbers can be added and subtracted as shown below:

Here we have an equation that contains complex numbers:

4x – 6 + (2y - 8)i = 6 + 4i

To solve this equation, set the real parts equal to each other, and set the imaginary parts equal to each other.
