Complex Numbers

A complex number is any number written in the form:

a + bi

Where ‘a’ and ‘b’ are real numbers, and ‘i’ is the imaginary unit.

Complex Conjugates

Complex Conjugates are two complex numbers written in the form:

a + bi, a - bi

Where ‘a’ and ‘b’ are real numbers, and ‘i’ is the imaginary unit. The product of two complex conjugates is always a real number.

Below we're multiplying two complex conjugates. As you can see, our answer is a single real number. This will be useful information for future lectures:
